NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Though statistics vary, there is a consensus in the field that most consumers of mental health services are trauma survivors and that their trauma experiences shape their responses to outreach and services.  Trauma Informed Care is an engagement technique that recognizes the presence of trauma histories and acknowledges the role of trauma in the lives of survivors.  This training offers an overview of the new diagnostic criteria from the DSM-5 of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and other trauma related disorders, as well as other symptoms and behaviors that can result from trauma.  Assessment, safety issues, medication and symptom management are explored both on case management and programmatic levels.  The training explores vicarious trauma issues.  Attendees will leave with a better understanding of Trauma Informed Care and the clinical skills needed to support persons healing and recovering from trauma histories.   Read more

NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Housing First is an evidence-based practice that is a proven method of ending all types of homelessness and is the most effective approach to ending chronic homelessness.  Housing First offers homeless persons immediate access to permanent affordable or supportive housing.  Both federal and local government agencies and funders are prioritizing the housing first model as a means to house chronically homeless individuals and families effectively.  This implementation package offers an overview of the Housing First model and information on the efficacy and principles of this evidence-based practice.  Attendees will explore the philosophical underpinnings of Housing First.  Using first hand experience in adopting Housing First, programs are offered tested strategic planning issues to facilitate the implementation process.  Options for additional training supports are offered to programs adopting this exciting and promising evidence-based practice.   Read more

Note:  This training is a Webinar, you must complete the Full Day in order to receive your certificate.    NYS Social Work CE Credit Hours: This training is not eligible for Social Work CE Hours CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0.  Property managers and social service providers that work side-by-side in supportive residences can sometimes experience stressors or points of rub in their partnership (whether they work for the same agency or separate agencies).  Though both have the goal of maintaining tenants’ well-being, each has a unique role in accomplishing that goal.  This training is targeted to social service and property management staff working together in supportive housing settings.  It examines the discrete roles of each of their two functions, as well as where the roles overlap.  It also offers participants information regarding boundaries between roles, opportunities for quality collaboration, and how to maximize the collective work experience for best outcomes.   Strategies are presented to develop and maintain clear lines of communication and establish forums for identifying and solving common problems.  Participants will leave the training with skills and strategies to maximize the collaborative work experience between property management and social service functions. Note:  This training is a Webinar, you must complete the Full Day in order to receive your certificate.    NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Until recently, compulsive hoarding remained a misunderstood disorder about which little was known.  Current research and outreach strategies have transformed the types of services we can now offer persons with this disorder.  The training focuses teaching staff the skills needed to work collaboratively with a tenant to help him/her stay housed.  It offers an overview of hoarding, identifies the populations at highest risk, and helps distinguish hoarding from collecting.  Attendees learn how to assess, engage, and manage these behaviors in supportive housing, and will leave the training with a more complete understanding of how to create a healthy alliance with persons who hoard and assist them with a transition to a less cluttered life.  This training is a pre-requisite to Buried in Treasures: A Curriculum to Address Hoarding Disorder, an evidence-based curriculum based intervention targeted to both support services and property management staff interested in offering classes to tenants on the issue of hoarding and living less cluttered lives.   Read more

Note:  This training is a Webinar, which has 1 session, you must complete the full session in order to receive your certificate.  This half day training is targeted to human service providers working to access mental health housing for individuals living with mental illness and in need of additional supports.This training provides a history of mental health & housing; an overview of OMH mental health housing models, eligibility, and access; as well as recovery-oriented resources and services.The training is interactive and offers skills & strategies for assessing individual support needs, engagement, and preparing applicants for successful housing interviews. All attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the NYC OMH mental health housing spectrum as well as how to navigate the HRA 2010e application and referral process. Read more

It relies on a collaborative, non-coercive approach that is respectful and responsive to a person’s preferences and needs, ensuring that the person’s values guide all decisions. This training offers information on how to shift from a system-centered approach to a person-centered approach, and shares tips to engage and assess an individual’s person-centered goals. Documentation serves as the blueprint and footprint for the Person-Centered Planning process. The training also offers practical guidance on how to support this process through service planning documentation, as well as other relevant charting issues. Attendees will leave the training better equipped to discover the personal goals of the individuals to whom they provide services, and to incorporate those goals into ongoing documentation.   Read more
