Note:  This training is a Webinar, which has 1 session, you must complete the full session in order to receive your certificate.  This half day training is targeted to human service providers working to access housing for individuals and families who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness and in need of additional supports. The training is interactive and provides an overview of the NY/NY I, II, III ​&​ NYC 15/15 agreements. NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Change is difficult for most persons, yet change is the driving force behind most service planning and goal-setting.  Motivational Interviewing (MI), developed by Miller and Rollnick, is an intervention that helps people recognize and address problem behavior (present or potential), and is intended to help resolve ambivalence and to get a person moving along the path to change.  MI serves as an important prelude to other treatment and services by creating an “openness” to change, which paves the way for further important therapeutic work.  This training provides an introduction to the basic principles and skills associated with MI including OARS, expressing empathy, rolling with resistance, and avoiding common roadblocks to change.  It also offers a foundation for Motivational Interviewing Part 2, which expands these skills into actual “change talk” and promotion of commitment to change.  Staff members trained in MI are often able to work effectively with the change process that many service recipients go through in their personal journeys towards recovery. NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: (This training is not eligible for SW CE/LMHC Hours) CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Property managers and social service providers that work side-by-side in supportive residences can sometimes experience stressors or points of rub in their partnership (whether they work for the same agency or separate agencies).  Though both have the goal of maintaining tenants’ well-being, each has a unique role in accomplishing that goal.  This training is targeted to social service and property management staff working together in supportive housing settings.  It examines the discrete roles of each of their two functions, as well as where the roles overlap.  It also offers participants information regarding boundaries between roles, opportunities for quality collaboration, and how to maximize the collective work experience for best outcomes.   Strategies are presented to develop and maintain clear lines of communication and establish forums for identifying and solving common problems.  Participants will leave the training with skills and strategies to maximize the collaborative work experience between property management and social service functions. NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Housing First is an evidence-based practice that is a proven method of ending all types of homelessness and is the most effective approach to ending chronic homelessness.  Housing First offers homeless persons immediate access to permanent affordable or supportive housing.  Both federal and local government agencies and funders are prioritizing the housing first model as a means to house chronically homeless individuals and families effectively.  This implementation package offers an overview of the Housing First model and information on the efficacy and principles of this evidence-based practice.  Attendees will explore the philosophical underpinnings of Housing First.  Using first hand experience in adopting Housing First, programs are offered tested strategic planning issues to facilitate the implementation process.  Options for additional training supports are offered to programs adopting this exciting and promising evidence-based practice.   Read more

NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0   Effective human service work hinges upon competent supervision.   Supervisors often drive the mission of the organization and reinforce good practice standards, and the effectiveness of service delivery can be impacted positively or negatively through supervision.  This training addresses the skills necessary to effectively supervise, manage, and support staff.  Topics include the purpose of supervision, qualities of effective supervision, mentoring staff, identifying one’s supervisory styles, delegating, and scheduling.   Giving staff feedback and addressing performance and conduct issues are practiced through case studies.   Attendees will leave the workshop feeling better equipped to provide the support that staff members need to perform optimally. NYS Social Work CE & LMHC Credit Hours: 5.0.  CASAC Renewal Credit Hours: 5.0 Regardless of the program setting, organizations strive to offer services that are culturally sensitive to the service recipients.  With an ever-changing demographic of clients, maintaining cultural competency among staff has to be a deliberate and planned goal.  This training focuses on skill-building based on four of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Standards on Cultural Competency: Ethics and Values, Self Awareness, Service Delivery, and Language Diversity.   In addition to providing services to diverse service recipients, most programs are also staffed by a broad range of individuals, each with unique communication styles and values.   The quality of services offered often depends on the degree to which effective communication takes place amongst all levels of staff, and certain critical sentiments can get lost in translation when staff members are unable to effectively exchange points of view.  Experiential exercises are used to illustrate the concept of culturally-bound frames of reference and how to use awareness of these frames to heighten cultural sensitivity.  At the end of this training, attendees will be better equipped to offer culturally-sensitive services and to effectively communicate points of view.   Read more
